I have 2 questions regarding throw-ins and how the Saskatoon Referees Association would
intrepid the call.
First of all in both scenarios
At the moment of delivering the ball, the thrower:
- faces the field of play;
- has part of each foot either on the touch line or on the ground outside the touch line
- uses both hands
- delivers the ball from behind and over his head
1. ‘Spiking’ the ball so it bounces up just inside the field or letting the simply fall from the hands a few feet in bounds. Some jurisdictions ( U.S . guides I have seen) it is deemed an incorrect throw, others call it OK just ugly.
Or
2. Twisting the hands after coming over the head so the ball goes in different direction than the thrower is facing.
I see nothing in the laws of the game against this but have had it called as incorrect
throw.
Your advice on this is greatly appreciated Smile
Thanks
keep up the great job Very Happy

Thanks for your post! I'm not sure I can tell you how the entire SDSRA would call this, but I can offer what I would call. I like to think I'm fairly plugged in with what's going on.
You have already identified the 4 requirements for a throw in:
- faces field of play
- part of each foot on or behind the touchline
- uses both hands
- delivers the ball from behind and over his head.
In both scenarios you have identified, all 4 criteria are met. So my question is, what's wrong with the throw? Granted it is not 'perfect' but it is no reason to stop the game and re-take the throw.
I've heard of this USSF interpretation as well and I believe that's what they taught us many years ago. The game evolves every year and I'm not sure if CSA has come along with another guideline.
As far as I'm concerned if the 4 criteria are met then the throw is good. Get the game going. Players would rather kick the ball around than throw it anyway!
